POSITION: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT- ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS

Summary:

Responsible for performing and overseeing a variety of complex accounting functions relating to daily balancing and General Ledger posting. Prepare reports for both internal and external customers.

Key Result Areas:  

  • Guide staff, to include Operations Accountant and intern, on daily functions and tasks to be completed on a daily/monthly/annual basis. Proactively respond to requests from management, internal and external auditors

  • Responsible for the daily posting of entries from the core loan and deposit system as well as monitoring the General Ledger (GL) error report for appropriate accounting treatment.  Also includes, preparing any other documents necessary to post the GL daily including journal entries from various bank departments. Actively manage certain suspense GL accounts to ensure transitional items are cleared appropriately and in a timely manner. Review and process (when applicable), core loan and deposit system to GL mapping changes, to include research and verifying changes to be made

  • Responsible for the daily balancing of Federal Reserve bank account and subsequent follow up on all reconciling items to ensure timely resolution, including wire transfers, NEACH and cash letter adjustments

  • Prepare various Fixed Asset/Prepaids for input into subsystems, including contacting specific departments regarding asset tag numbers. Monthly closing of both fixed assets and prepaid systems. Participation in the company annual fixed asset review process to assess for impairment and write downs

  • Responsible for the preparation of assigned journal entries including various complex accruals, by gathering appropriate detailed information

  • Provide back up for accounts payable as needed. Prepare and manage the daily activity regarding invoice preparation and payment according to bank policy and procedures. Interact with all levels of management for payment approval

  • Oversee companywide reconciliation process. Work cross functionally with departments across the company to ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely and accurately. Collect and retain all reconciliations for the company each month. Summarize stale dated items each month for senior management. Review and approve daily official checks reconciliations

  • Involvement with the company wide consolidation and intercompany elimination process as well as with regulatory reporting and annual audited financial statement production

  • Ensure that Bank accounting policies are followed. Constantly update job knowledge and procedural documentation. Responsible for assigned accounting projects and accounting research

  • Maintain regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or correct account transactions. Work with other departments to resolve issues and improve processes

  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in accounting preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Advanced in Microsoft Excel including the use of complex formulas

  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP

  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process

  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills

  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Public accounting and/or banking experience preferred

  • CPA preferred
