POSITION: RESIDENTIAL UNDERWRITING MANAGER

The Residential Underwriting Manager, under the direction of the FVP, Residential Loan Operations Manager, is responsible for the oversight of the Residential Underwriters for mortgage and home equity loans in accordance with established bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.  Additionally, they ensure all loans are underwritten to applicable timelines, and compliance requirements, as well as effectively execute the paperless loan workflow and milestones associated with the Loan Origination System (LOS).

 

The Residential Underwriting Manager maintains thorough knowledge of Cambridge Savings Bank, Fannie Mae and other approved investors underwriting guidelines and works independently and collaboratively with the residential loan operations team to ensure a frictionless process from underwriting to clear to close.

 

Key Result Areas:  

 

  • Manage daily operations of the underwriting process including pipeline management to effectively meet turn-time goals and to ensure compliance with bank and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide back-up support to Underwriters, which may include underwriting, reviewing conditions, appraisal reviews, and updating the Encompass LOS.
  • Prepare credit denial letters and underwrite external subordination requests.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are created, up to date, accurate and being adhered to. Focus on the established workflow and work within defined standards to meet monthly and yearly department goals.
  • Ensure Underwriters make appropriate lending decisions to approve, decline, counteroffer or suspend applications.
  • Monitor efficiency standards and provide recommendations for improvement when needed.
  • Responsible for pre-funding and post-closing Quality Control (QC) of loan files
  • Maintain strong working relationship with secondary market investors, appraisers, MI companies, and attorneys, answering questions and resolving issues in a solution-oriented manner.
  • Hire, train and develop Underwriters, to include completing annual performance reviews, on-going coaching conversations, productive one-on-ones, career development conversations and development plans as necessary.
  • Primary resource to assist Underwriters, Loan Officers and Loan analysts with questions and complex situations in which they require guidance all while educating them to explain why and where to find the information for future reference.
  • Assist senior management and take the lead on specific goal-oriented projects identified to streamline the overall process.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • College Education preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ management experience in a team-oriented workplace along with outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
  • 5 years’ work experience in underwriting to portfolio and secondary market guidelines for residential mortgage loans and equities.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Experience using Encompass Loan Origination System (LOS).
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows Environment to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
